Acosol Awards Critical Pipeline Works on Casares-Estepona Border
Acosol awards a €350,263 contract to overhaul a 2.5-kilometre trunk water pipe between the Galera stream and the MA-8300 road in Casares.
Public water operator Acosol has awarded a €350,263 contract to engineering specialists Irtene SL to redesign and replace a deteriorated 2.5-kilometre section of the main supply line linking Casares with Estepona. The intervention targets a vital arterial conduit running between the Galera stream and the junction of the MA-8300, the principal road connecting Casares village to the coast.
Replacing Ageing Infrastructure
The project addresses chronic maintenance issues that have affected municipal supplies during heavy usage peaks. Technical surveys conducted ahead of the tender revealed that an existing 400-millimetre line composed of fibre cement—a brittle material completely phased out in modern distribution schemes—suffers recurring fractures and joint leaks. Replacing this obsolete conduit with high-durability steel and modern materials is intended to permanently resolve structural losses.
Integration into Western Supply Corridors
Beyond immediate pipeline repairs, the project serves as a crucial link in the wider Costa del Sol water supply network. The design requires full compatibility with plans to connect coastal distribution lines between Campo de Gibraltar and the Western Costa del Sol. Engineers must ensure the new Casares bypass meshes smoothly with ongoing reinforcement work at the Jordana stream crossing, avoiding future service disruption for nearby urbanisations.
Timetable and Regional Delivery
The Casares design contract runs parallel to a broader €1.84 million engineering initiative covering 11.8 kilometres of supply lines in Marbella. Preliminary field surveys along the MA-8300 corridor will get underway this month. Municipal authorities have confirmed that work will be planned to preserve access to local estates and businesses along the Casares road throughout the construction process.
