Andalusia Rolls Out Autumn Joint Flu and Covid Vaccination Drive
Health centres across the Costa del Sol open priority vaccination clinics targeting seniors, vulnerable residents and expat pensioners.
Annual Immunisation Push Underway
The Andalusian regional health authority (SAS) has officially rolled out its 2026 autumn immunisation campaign across the Costa del Sol, offering combined vaccinations against seasonal influenza and Covid-19. Clinics from Torremolinos and Fuengirola through to Marbella and Estepona opened their appointment books this week, prioritising older demographics, high-risk patients and nursing care residents as temperatures gradually begin their seasonal descent.
Public health directors have designed this year's rollout to minimise administrative obstacles for international residents registered on the public healthcare network. By grouping seasonal inoculations into single clinic sessions, health officials aim to establish high community immunity before peak respiratory transmission begins in late November.
Phased Access Schedule for Coastal Residents
The immunisation drive follows a strictly structured chronological calendar to prevent queuing at local ambulatory clinics and health centres (centros de salud). The initial cohort, now receiving doses across coastal facilities, includes care home residents, non-ambulatory individuals, front-line medical staff and pregnant women.
Beginning next week, the portal will expand eligibility to all residents aged 80 and over, swiftly followed by phased rollouts for those aged 70 and above, and subsequently down to age 60. Minors aged between six months and five years are also eligible for preventative flu doses through paediatric health teams, reflecting regional guidelines aimed at curtailing school-based transmission loops.
Practical Guidance for International Pensioners
For the substantial British and European pensioner community residing in towns like Mijas, Benalmádena and Nerja, securing an appointment is straightforward through standard Andalusian healthcare channels. Registered residents holding an Andalusian health card (tarjeta sanitaria) can reserve their vaccination slots online via the official ClicSalud+ portal, through the mobile Salud Andalucía application, or by calling the regional Salud Responde telephone hotline.
Expats who hold residency status but navigate healthcare through private insurance policies are encouraged to check with their local private hospital groups, many of which are simultaneously dispensing approved seasonal flu vaccines. With coastal medical centres fully geared for the influx, health administrators urge eligible foreign residents to take advantage of preventative measures early in the season.
