Benalmádena Unlocks €8.38m Cash Surplus for Town-Wide Infrastructure Push

By Costa del Sol News 4 October 2026 2 min read

Benalmádena Town Hall has approved an €8.38 million investment package funded from municipal cash reserves to upgrade beach facilities, transit links, and urban roads.

A sudden cash injection of €8.38 million is set to transform public works across Benalmádena over the coming autumn and winter months, following formal sign-off by the municipal council. Rather than taking on fresh commercial debt or seeking regional bailouts, municipal finance officers are drawing the entire supplementary credit of €8,381,215 directly from the town hall's existing treasury surplus. The decision frees up capital immediately, targeting everything from coastal amenities to traffic calming and neglected residential services.

Upgrading Coastal Fronts and Beach Amenities

A major share of the capital expenditure heads straight down to the shoreline. Benalmádena Costa's bathing zones are slated for the rollout of new smart, eco-themed beach showers and refreshed pedestrian access points. The aim is to complete heavy civil works before the spring season arrives, upgrading tired infrastructure that weathered record footfall throughout the summer months. At the same time, the eastern threshold of the town at Fuente de la Salud will undergo comprehensive landscaping and entrance remodeling to give visitors arriving from Torremolinos a more polished arrival experience.

Overhauling Urban Transit and Key Thoroughfares

For daily motorists and public transport passengers, the blueprint tackles persistent transport snags. Dedicated reorganisations are scheduled along both Avenida Las Palmeras and Avenida de los Argonautas, where traffic circulation and pedestrian crossings have generated steady neighbourhood petitions. Local bus users will see newly constructed platform bays and sheltered stops installed along core routes, while targeted traffic-calming measures, including raised crosswalks and speed deterrents, will roll out across accident blackspots in residential quarters.

Modernising Underground Drainage in Uphill Communities

Beyond visible surface improvements, the package commits substantial resources to subterranean problems that have frustrated suburban homeowners. Sanitation networks and main storm sewers will undergo substantial reinforcement in three established urbanisations: Torremar, La Capellanía, and parts of El Higuerón. These hillside enclaves, particularly popular with British and northern European property owners, have historically suffered drainage stress during intense Mediterranean downpours, making the infrastructure overhaul an urgent civic priority.

Youth Hubs, Parks, and Community Facilities

Social infrastructure rounds out the municipal shopping list. Innova Park will see its interior activity spaces, youth hubs, and music rehearsal rooms completely revamped. Meanwhile, Arroyo de la Miel's public library will receive long-awaited structural repairs to resolve damp issues in its reading rooms. Town parks are earmarked for modern playground equipment and outdoor fitness circuits designed for senior residents, alongside upgrades to municipal sports halls. Around €386,000 has also been ring-fenced to clear historic outstanding supplier invoices, wiping the municipal slate clean as the wider capital works programme unfolds.
