French Vintage Citroën Rally Completes Andalusian Tour in Mijas Pueblo
A rare fleet of 21 classic Citroën Traction Avant vehicles has drawn motoring enthusiasts and collectors to Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas.
A striking collection of historic pre-war automotive engineering rolled into Mijas Pueblo this week, as 21 pristine French Citroën Traction Avant automobiles brought their exclusive regional mountain rally to an end across the inland passes of Malaga province.
The international convoy, made up of historic car enthusiasts and French collectors, parked up in the stone-paved Plaza Virgen de la Peña beneath the towering whitewashed facade of the town hall. The gathering gave visiting car connoisseurs and local residents an up-close look at one of the twentieth century's most influential design platforms, renowned for pioneering front-wheel drive, monocoque chassis construction and independent suspension.
Five-Day Crossing of Mountain Routes
Organisers mapped out an ambitious itinerary covering more than 600 kilometres of challenging Andalusian mountain asphalt. The drivers departed the coast to tackle scenic secondary roads cutting through the Serranía de Ronda, El Chorro and the steep ascents of the Sierra de las Nieves before descending through the Mijas mountain passes.
The fleet included exceptionally rare collector variants, ranging from early late-1930s 7C models with distinctive chrome grilles to post-war 11B berlines, alongside several high-value cabriolet conversions. Motoring preservationists from Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux took part in the event, joining fellow classic car owners residing permanently in southern Spain.
Classic Motoring Culture Across the Coast
Events of this calibre highlight the growing reputation of the Costa del Sol as an established winter and autumn hub for vintage rallies and historic motorsport. The region's dry autumn climate and well-maintained winding interior routes provide ideal conditions for maintaining fragile classic engines that struggle with damp northern European winters.
Local business owners across the village square reported an enthusiastic reception, with terraces around the historic viewpoints seeing strong patronage as spectators gathered to admire the immaculate vintage bodywork. The drivers plan to regroup next spring for a coastal run across the western shores.
