Marbella Half Marathon: Race Details for This Sunday Event
Thousands of runners are preparing to hit the seafront this Sunday as the annual Marbella Half Marathon returns to the resort.
Coastal Route Ready for Action
Athletics enthusiasts and visiting runners are making final preparations as the annual Marbella Half Marathon takes centre stage this weekend on Sunday 27 September. The competitive race, which has grown to become one of the premier sporting fixtures on the western Costa del Sol autumn calendar, will see hundreds of amateur and experienced athletes line up for the 21-kilometre challenge.
Staged along the picturesque Mediterranean shoreline, the event officially kicks off at 09:00 from Parque Mediterráneo. The fast, relatively flat coastal course winds past key municipal landmarks, steering participants through prime beachfront stretches and central boulevards before bringing competitors back to the seaside park finish line by 13:00.
Traffic Adjustments and Spectator Hotspots
Local authorities have outlined extensive traffic management plans to accommodate the morning race. Coastal thoroughfares and slip roads connected to the promenade will face temporary morning closures and diversions between 08:00 and 13:30, with municipal police urging motorists to plan alternative routes along inland bypasses.
Spectators can take advantage of numerous viewing zones positioned along the promenade, particularly around the central seafront avenues where crowd energy is expected to be highest. Family-friendly gathering points have been established near the start-finish paddock at Parque Mediterráneo, where post-race celebrations and podium ceremonies will take place in the early afternoon.
Autumn Sports Season Underway
The long-distance race signals the busy commencement of the municipality's autumn sporting programme, taking full advantage of the mild late-September temperatures that characterise the southern Spanish coast. Both local athletic clubs and international running visitors are participating in large numbers, underscoring the town's expanding profile for sports tourism outside the peak summer months.
