Fuengirola Expands Neighbourhood Parking in Mountain Suburbs

By Costa del Sol News 28 September 2026 2 min read

Fuengirola is rolling out targeted parking upgrades across hillside neighbourhoods to ease street congestion for local residents and visitors.

Motorists living in the hillside districts of Fuengirola are seeing immediate relief as municipal infrastructure teams advance the latest phase of the local Municipal Parking Plan. In steep residential areas where narrow roads and high car ownership have created daily parking bottlenecks, new designated bays are being carved out of underused municipal land and redesigned road sections.

The town hall’s infrastructure department is expanding surface-level spaces in the upper sectors of Torreblanca and Los Boliches. These neighbourhood interventions add to more than 500 surface spaces brought into service across residential pockets during the current municipal mandate, offering straightforward parking options away from congested town-centre garages.

Practical Solutions for Steep Urban Terrains

Topography has long presented a mobility challenge for the eastern hillside communities of Fuengirola. Subdivisions developed during early tourism expansions featured narrow carriage lanes without dedicated private driveways or underground garages, forcing residents to park along tight kerbsides and hindering emergency vehicle access.

By reconfiguring road alignments, converting single-lane dead-ends into organised parking corridors, and reinforcing slope verges, technicians are systematically adding fresh vehicle capacity without eating into green areas. In upper Los Boliches alone, fifty-five new designated bays are coming into operation, accompanied by upgraded LED street lighting and revised road markings to ensure safer vehicle manoeuvres at night.

Balancing Immediate Spaces with Mega-Projects

While small-scale road reorganisations provide immediate answers for suburban residents, Fuengirola is balancing them against massive civic works elsewhere in the town. Under the broader mobility scheme, underground car parking facilities form an essential cornerstone of major urban redevelopments across coastal nodes.

The municipal strategy has already created thousands of underground spaces, such as the major underground parking development beneath the Arroyo Real vault. The approach aims to shift commuter vehicles off residential road verges and direct long-stay parking beneath purpose-built public hubs, leaving street-level corridors cleaner and more accessible for daily foot traffic.
