Torremolinos Approves 1000 Home Los Alamos Masterplan
Torremolinos approves a masterplan for 1,000 new homes in Los Álamos, featuring commercial units and green space. See the project development.
Torremolinos town hall has cleared the next major planning hurdle for a comprehensive masterplan in Los Álamos that will deliver 1,000 new residential units. The expansive project repurposes an extensive strip of land previously designated for an 18-hole golf course, redirecting prime urban expansion toward badly needed family housing and commercial facilities.
Bordered by the residential El Olivar district to the north and framed by the AP-7 and MA-20 motorways to the south, the development site will transform an underutilised plot opposite the old Los Álamos hotel grounds. Municipal planners and regional environmental authorities signed off on the revised zoning blueprints after determining that residential growth offered superior long-term utility for the municipality.
A Balanced Mix of Living and Commerce
The approved zoning layout allocates land for 1,000 sustainable apartments alongside roughly 13,000 square metres of commercial space designed for daily shopping, medical services, and local trade. By integrating retail into the heart of the district, developers intend to minimise unnecessary vehicle trips toward the central town core.
In addition to commerce, the scheme preserves more than 10,500 square metres for private and public sports facilities, incorporating courts for tennis, athletics tracks, and training grounds. Broad avenues lined with shade trees and pedestrian corridors are planned throughout to counteract urban heat buildup during warm summer periods.
Airport Proximity and Infrastructure Checks
Given the site's proximity to runway approaches at Málaga Airport, the plan has undergone rigorous environmental and civil aviation vetting. Planners have adjusted landscaped water features and tree canopies to comply with strict aviation guidelines regarding regional bird populations, ensuring that flight safety remains entirely uncompromised.
Local authorities view the northern expansion as an essential pressure valve for coastal housing constraints. With construction permissions advancing steadily, ground clearing and preliminary engineering works are scheduled to commence in early 2027, marking the largest single housing expansion in Torremolinos over the last two decades.
