Torremolinos Deploys Permanent Year-Round Coastal Support Teams Across Beaches
Torremolinos expands its coastal management model by retaining permanent municipal beach attendants through winter to support visitors, safety, and local police.
Beaches in Torremolinos will retain active municipal assistance teams throughout the upcoming autumn and winter seasons, abandoning the historical practice of scaling back coastal support as summer ends. The town council has formalized a multi-year service contract ensuring dedicated personnel monitor the coastline twelve months a year.
Shifting Away from Seasonal Models
Under the municipal scheme, 15 permanent attendants will patrol the full length of the local shoreline, stretching from the eastern edge of Los Álamos to the bustling promenade of La Carihuela. In previous seasons, auxiliary beach teams operated strictly between late May and the final days of September before standing down for the quiet cooler months.
Local authorities approved the permanent year-round format to reflect changing demographics across the Costa del Sol. Torremolinos now welcomes steady visitor numbers and international retirees throughout the winter, meaning seafront usage remains brisk regardless of the calendar month.
Operational Responsibilities on the Sand
The beach attendants work closely alongside the Local Police force, operating as front-line eyes and ears on the sands. Core duties include supervising adherence to municipal coastal regulations, assisting foreign tourists with safety information, monitoring swimming warnings, and notifying town services of damage to boardwalks, showers, or municipal access ramps.
The deployment also coincides with a municipal plan to integrate 24 new officers into the local police ranks over the next two years, significantly expanding uniform visibility across primary tourist arteries.
Impact for Winter Residents and Visitors
For residents and winter visitors who frequent the promenades for morning walks, cycling, or sea swimming, the continuous presence offers consistent public support. The permanent coastal management initiative ensures that municipal standards, cleanliness, and swift reporting of maritime incidents continue seamlessly through the colder months, reinforcing the resort's status as a year-round coastal destination.
