Torremolinos Halloween: Fiesta del Terror moves to November 1
Torremolinos reschedules its free Fiesta del Terror to Sunday 1 November after the national mourning, with a tunnel of terror, workshops and concerts.
Halloween in Torremolinos has a new date. The town's culture department has moved its main family event of the season, the Fiesta del Terror, from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 1 November. The change follows the three days of official mourning declared by the Spanish government and the regional administration after this week's train disaster near Urda, in the province of Toledo, which claimed at least 68 lives.
The decision mirrors steps taken across the province of Malaga, where most municipal Halloween programmes were suspended outright. Torremolinos chose to reschedule rather than cancel, so families spending the long weekend on the coast still have one big, free Halloween date to put in the diary.
The Fiesta del Terror will run from 16:30 to 21:30 at the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Admission is free for all activities, and the town hall has designed the programme to be inclusive, so that families with children of different ages and needs can enjoy the day without worrying about scenes that are too intense.
The afternoon combines music, creativity and play. A concert, craft workshops and bouncy castles fill the earlier hours, giving the event a neighbourhood party atmosphere before the lights go down.
The centrepiece is the tunnel of terror, open from 19:00 until 21:30. It is an interactive walk-through attraction with actors and special effects, spread across four themed rooms: The Mansion of Lost Souls, The Corridor of Laments, The Forbidden Room and The Cursed Jail. The queue forms at the rear of the cultural centre, entry is free, and access is organised strictly by order of arrival, so there are no tickets to book in advance.
Although the tunnel keeps the traditional Halloween spirit of deliberate frights, it has been adapted for all audiences, which is what makes this event stand out from commercial horror attractions. Visitors walk through dark, staged scenes room by room, with performers playing their parts around them rather than at them, and families can decide how far in they want to go.
A few practical points make the evening smoother. Arrive before 19:00 to enjoy the workshops and inflatables first, because the tunnel queue grows quickly once the attraction opens. The rear of the cultural centre is the access point for the tunnel, and the flow is managed by order of arrival, so earlier visitors get through faster.
For people coming from outside the town, the event fits comfortably into an evening on the coast. The first of November is a Sunday, the late October weather on the Costa del Sol is still mild, and the cultural centre sits within easy reach of Torremolinos' central areas, shops and restaurants, so dinner and a fright can share the same evening.
The postponement was the second adjustment to the town's Halloween calendar this year. The event had originally been announced for Saturday 31 October, in line with the usual run of municipal activities, before the days of mourning led councils across the province to review their plans almost overnight.
The Urda disaster is Spain's worst rail accident in decades and led to cancellations far beyond the Costa del Sol. Official ceremonies were scaled down, municipal festivities were postponed from Malaga capital to small inland villages, and cultural centres went through their agendas line by line. Against that sombre backdrop, a rescheduled and free family event is a small sign of routine returning, and Torremolinos is among the first towns on the coast to confirm a firm new date.
One last tip, as always with municipal events: schedules can shift again, and the final programme is published by the culture department in the days before the weekend. Checking the announcements before travelling costs nothing and avoids disappointment at the door.
