Nerja's Balcon de Europa Reopens After Refurbishment
The iconic clifftop viewpoint reopens with widened walkways, new lighting and improved accessibility after a summer of works.
A landmark refreshed
Nerja's Balcon de Europa, the palm-lined promontory that juts over the Mediterranean at the heart of the old town, has reopened following a refurbishment of its surrounding promenade.
What changed
The works widened the pedestrian walkways, replaced the ageing balustrade lighting with discreet LED strips, and added ramps to improve wheelchair and pushchair access. The historic palm trees were preserved and the viewing platforms re-laid in pale local stone.
Why it matters
The Balcon is Nerja's postcard view and its economic engine, drawing day-trippers from across the eastern Costa del Sol. The upgrade is part of a wider plan to spread visitor flow beyond the peak summer months.
Visiting
The viewpoint is open around the clock and free to access. Cafes and ice-cream parlours along the approach have reopened their terraces for the autumn season.
